(aka how strangers turn into friends and I get the best feeling in the world doing it)
There’s something kinda wild about the car business that nobody really talks about…
One minute, you’re walking up to a complete stranger in the parking lot—
They’re side-eyeing you like, “Here comes a sales person…” 😅
And the next minute?
You’re handing them keys, hugging their kids, talking about their dog named Bubba, and somehow knowing their life story.
Like… HOW did we get here so fast?? 😂
It always starts the same…
“Hey y’all! What brings you in today?”
Simple. Friendly. Harmless.
But in their head?
🚨 “Don’t make eye contact.”
🚨 “We’re just looking.”
🚨 “If she asks about budget, we’re leaving.”
And I get it!! People come into dealerships expecting pressure, awkwardness, and someone trying to sell them something they don’t even want.
But me?
I’m just over here like…
“Okay but what if we actually have fun with this?” 😌
Then the magic starts happening…
We start talking.
Not about numbers. Not about payments.
About life.
- Where they’re from
- What they drive now (and why they lowkey hate it 😂)
- Their kids, their job, their weekend plans
- That one time their transmission decided to quit in the Chick-fil-A drive-thru
Next thing you know, we’re laughing. Like actually laughing.
And that feeling I get?
Not a “high”…
It’s more like a rush of excitement mixed with purpose.
Like… this is exactly where I’m supposed to be.
Then comes the fun part 😏
Now I know what matters to them.
Not just:
“Do you want leather or cloth?”
But:
“Do you need space for car seats?”
“Are you pulling a trailer?”
“Do you want something that makes you feel like THAT girl when you pull up?” 💅
Now I’m not just selling a car…
I’m matching them with something that actually fits their life.
And when I get it right?
Ohhhh you can see it on their face.
That moment when they sit in it and go:
“Okay yeah… this is it.”
That right there??
That’s the feeling.
And then… the deal happens 🎉
Papers signed.
Keys in hand.
Big smiles.
Sometimes there’s hugs.
Sometimes there’s pictures.
Sometimes there’s a kid honking the horn 47 times while we’re trying to celebrate 😂
And every single time, I sit there for a second and think:
“We were literally strangers an hour ago.”
But here’s the part people don’t see…
It’s not about the sale.
It’s about:
- Making someone feel comfortable in a place they expected to hate
- Turning stress into excitement
- Helping someone make a big decision and actually feel GOOD about it
That feeling I get?
It’s not just excitement.
It’s not just happiness.
It’s a sense of fulfillment—like I got to make someone’s day a little easier, a little better, and maybe even a little funnier.
Full circle moment 🫶
Now they’re not just “a customer.”
They’re:
- Texting me later asking how to work remote start 😂
- Sending me pictures of their new ride
- Telling their friends, “You gotta go see Hayley”
And just like that…
A stranger turns into part of my little car family.
Final thought
I never really understood my “why” before I started doing this.
But now?
It’s simple:
I get to meet people, make them laugh, help them out, and send them off in something they’re proud of.
And honestly…
There’s no better feeling than that. 💙🚗
